BDA strengthens senior team in Seoul

BDA Partners is pleased to announce the addition of a new senior banker, Kwang-Joon (KJ) Kim, who will strengthen BDA’s Seoul Team as a Senior Executive Director.

KJ Kim will work closely with Howard Lee, Head of BDA Seoul, on corporate sellside, buyside M&A and capital raising transactions. He strengthens BDA’s Seoul team by bringing extensive investment banking experience. Mr. Kim has 14 years’ experience at Credit Suisse, leading landmark M&A transactions for key chaebols and major financial institutions. His notable transactions include:

  • the acquisition of Toshiba’s memory business in Japan by an SK Group-led consortium
  • the sale of SKC’s petrochemical subsidiary to Kuwait’s PIC
  • the sale of Kumho Tire to Doublestar in China
  • the sale of KDB Daewoo Securities to Mirae Asset, and
  • the sale of Hynix to SK Telecom

Before joining Credit Suisse, Mr. Kim worked at McKinsey, where he managed corporate finance and turnaround strategy engagements for Korean conglomerates. At McKinsey, he focused on M&A transactions across the Consumer, Transportation, Utilities, Chemicals, Financial Institutions, and other industries. Before that, he worked for Clarion Capital as a senior investment analyst and for Arthur Andersen in Seoul and the US. Mr. Kim holds an MBA from Stanford University, an MA/BA from Seoul National University, and is a CFA charter holder as well as a registered CPA in Korea.

Charlie Maynard, Co-Founder and Senior Managing Director of BDA, said, “We’re excited to have Kwang-Joon Kim join us to build on BDA’s already strong Seoul practice. We believe he will bring extensive experience and deep relationships, and he will be a valuable addition to BDA. This is part of our plan to grow market share, carefully, across BDA’s Asian offices.”

Howard Lee, Partner and Head of BDA Seoul, added, “Kwang-Joon Kim and I first met during SKT’s acquisition of Hynix, where I worked for the buyer, and KJ Kim advised the seller. KJ Kim and I enjoyed a strong chemistry as counterparties; I noted his professional ethics and diligence. I’m confident that he will enhance BDA’s ability to deliver unique global perspectives, offer sound strategic advice, and drive outstanding outcomes for our clients.”
