October 16, 2012
Business Development Asia LLC (“BDA”) won three awards from The M&A Advisor, more than any other company. BDA won the “Industrial Manufacturing and Distribution Deal of the Year” for its work on The Weir Group’s acquisition of HIM Tech’s valves business in Korea. BDA also won the “Corporate and Strategic Acquisition of the Year” for its work on the acquisition of Joysun by Lunar Capital. Finally, Euan Rellie, Senior Managing Director and Co-Founder of BDA, was named “Dealmaker of the Year.”
The 2012 International M&A Summit and the 4th Annual International M&A Advisor Awards ceremony addressed the increasing importance of cross-border M&A and the emergence of BRIC countries in global M&A transactions. BDA participated in panels addressing China’s foreign direct investment into the US and “best practices of the best cross-border M&A dealmakers.”
With 16 years of cross-border transaction experience, BDA is recognized as being at the forefront of Asia-US transactions. BDA is seeing an increasing amount of outbound M&A from Asia, and believes that this trend will accelerate over the coming years.
Charles Maynard, Senior Managing Director and Co-Founder of BDA, who heads BDA’s Beijing office, said: “We’re glad to see BDA recognized for its work with US and international clients. This is the result of a great deal of hard work across the firm.”
Andrew Huntley, Senior Managing Director of BDA, who heads BDA’s London office, commented: “BDA is doing well in the US, Europe and Asia. Market conditions mean that BDA is now well placed for continued expansion and industry leadership.”
BDA advised The Weir Group, a global leader in the design, supply and service of engineering equipment and solutions for the mining, oil & gas, and power & industrial sectors. The Weir Group acquired 60% of a new Korean company, Weir International, into which the valves business of HIM Tech was transferred.
BDA advised on the sale of Sichuan Zhiqiang Food (“Joysun”) to Lunar Capital, a China-focused private equity group. Lunar Capital acquired 60% of Joysun, a leading instant walnut beverage manufacturer in China.
